Hello,

I have downloaded the Speed Camera database from this site and it sits in my POI file on the Garmin as a Zip file. I am also using Ash’s Camera manager as I wanted to alter alert times and use his icons. I therefore also have his gfx files in the POI folder.

I have a trail version of Cyclops. Currently I have the Garmin camera POI unticked and the custom POI ticked which I assume has picked up from the download of this site’s camera database.

It seems as though I am using this site’s camera database, however I still have two icons used from PocketGPSworlds database being picked up as a visual on the Garmin’s map. Question – how do I use the icons from Ash’s program with the database from PocketGPSworld?

Thanking you in advance.

Bryan

Hi and welcome.

I'm sorry but i'm having a few problems understanding what you have done.

If you are using Ash10s CM then it will download it's own copy of the database. You don't need to download your own copy. It then generates file based on your selections in the options.

Delete the database download and any other icons you have and run CM and alter the alert timings. If they are as you want them, then alter one, hit Apply and alter it back and hit Apply again. This forces CM to refresh the data.

You choose which set of icons you want using the selection Icons tab. Click on the type of icons you want and the data and icons are adjusted.

I assume by Ash10s icons you GerryCs icons?? These??

If so, then you need to add the appropriate icons and select the "Just use the exisiting icons in my POI Folder" option on the icons tab. Note this is greyed out unless you have the full version. If you are using the free version then you have to manually add and overwrite the icons each time with the new icons.

Thanks for the replies guys-
I am using the icons which are available within Ash’s CM.

Here is the process I have followed
a) Trialed the Garmin speed camera system. Currently unticked in the POI menu
b) Download the PocketGPSWorld database
c) Up loaded it using the Garmin uploader
d) Opened up Ash’s camera manager and then altered timings and pressed OK.

Question – if I clear out all files from the POI folder on my Garmin I then lose my “Points of Interest” menu item on my Nuvi 200W. If I do clear out all folders and then upload using Ash’s CM does the Garmin automatically use the only database it has available?

Incorrect

As i stated above you do not need to download the database if you are using CM. CM downloads it's own copy of the database into your POILoader folder (which is the folder POILoader uploads your POIs from) and then generates the files with the settings you select in CM - it makes new files called GPX files. These are the files you need to upload to your Nuvi with POILoader. You must make sure you are logged into the PGPSW website so CM can retrieve the database however you do NOT need to do it manually.

If you have other POIs then you must include them in the POILoader upload folder so they get uploaded at the same time as the Speed Cameras. Note when you upload the database after you have used CM it may take a long time for the upload to complete. Even if it looks like it's frozen or crashed leave it alone. It can take a few minutes to complete. The GPX files are much, much larger than the original CSV files.

CM does NOT interact with your Nuvi hence you are not getting Ash10s icons.

Simplified instructions.

1. Find the folder POILoader uses to upload your POIs from.
2. Remove all speed camera database files (zipped, unzipped, CSV and BMP)
3. Log into the PGPSW website.
4. Run CM and set the timings you want. Select the icons you want on the icons tab.
5. Click Apply
6. Watch the POILoader upload folder and several new files (GPX) and icons (BMP) will appear. A copy of the PocketGPSWorld Speed Camera Database will also appear - leave it.
7. Close CM and upload the contents of the POILoader folder with POILoader to your Nuvi. Wait until it completes. This may take some time.
8. Done.

When the next database is released, start CM and let it download the new database. It'll generate new GPX files and you then upload those to the Nuvi with POILoader.

Note when you upload files to the Nuvi it wipes out all existing POIs so you must keep all your POIs in the POILoader upload folder.

edit: spelling

Great, guys, thank you for your kind help. It is much appreciated. This is the best £19 I have ever spent!

I see from Ash's CM that he has said in a previous posting on the site a donation would by 2 or 3 pints? Is that three pints from a working mans club or 3 pints from Stringfellows? Smile

Regards

Bryan

What does Ash10's icons look like? I've never had a need to download it as I'm on a TT. Confused Any similarities are purely co-incidental. Smile

Thanks Paul. I was hoping that it didn't look like I had ripped off his designs. Cool

I'll let you get back to helping BryanMacUK out (sorry for hijacking the thread Bryan Embarassed ).

Hi Guys,

Tried in last night as per your instruction and all is fine now thanks. I have long drive to Malmesnury in Wiltshire to Cornwall today so the speed camera alerts will come in useful.

Regards
