Im confused about the UK map on my TT One XL, I purchased this
unit on the 3 October 2007 it came with map ver. 675.1409 I now see from other map quires on this forum that there is a newer version710.
I was under the impression that you got free map upgrades in the
first year after purchase.(must be wrong as usual) Phoned TT and they
say I can buy the newer map, but added its probably not worth it as
the one I have is not that old.

TomTom uses these days service called: Latest map guarantee. It means that if a newer map is released during 30 days from when you first start using your device, you’re entitled to one free map download.

The 675.1409 maps were isued in April 2007. There has been discussion as to whether the new 710 map is better than the 675, without anybody able to say for sure.
But I think you ARE entitled to the map update, 3rd October should bring you just inside the 30 days.
However, Tom Tom are having major trouble with the Latest Map Guarantee function, to the extent that it seems nobody can get it to work. They give everybody the 'Not worth it' or 'Not available' or 'Not entitled' run around to avoid getting into sorting it out!! Some of us who have managed to get the new map only did so by pestering Tom Tom really hard and never giving up - we believe that what they did to satisfy us was to credit our TT accounts with a purchase of the new map so that we could download it.
Be aware that once/if you succeed in this course, the download is not as straightforward as one might hope. I seem to have been one of the luckier ones, because I gave up on mine after 3 hours of it eventually hanging up, then another 3.5 hours, so it only took me two attempts totalling 6.5 hours. Others have taken five attempts!! It might be good to try having a bit of paint dry alongside it for a comparison of the sheer excitement. _________________ Dennis

So far a good result from TomTom, got a quick reply to my
email asking for my product code, had already sent a copy
of my invoice, they said with that information they can then
forward the map update request to the Plus Service team.
This afternoon I logged into TomTom Home and there it
was the map update waiting to be down loaded.
So I will do that tomorrow when I have a new SD card,
Don’t want to mess the original one up.
No complaints form me about TT service…(not yet anyway)

Have now downloaded the new map, (about 8 mins to d/l) and installed.
What surprised me is that it also installed my PocketGPS world safety
cameras and voices, I thought I would have to reinstall these and set then
up again. Did this happen because the old map was still on the SD card.
When I first check on TT Home after the map upgrade it showed both
old and new maps were installed on my One XL, but now it is only showing
the new map.

Did you install the POI files for the speed cameras using TomTom Home when originally performed? - Mike |

No, when I first installed them on the original TT SD card I used windows
explorer ie. the drive that is activated when your TT is plugged into the PC and then just dropped the files that were needed into the map folder.

You're supposed to be still sat there going out of your mind with boredom and worry that the download is never going to complete. It's supposed to have stopped at least an hour ago and crashed. _________________ Dennis

Yes I was surprised myself, after reading what you had said earlier
in the post, not even enough time to get the lid off the paint can.

Wasn't it just the UK maps? They must be tiny compared with Western & Central Europe. _________________ Anita

You are talking europe again. There is no debate over the UK map - 6.75 is older, and out of date in places, 7.10 is definately newer, and has new roads on etc.
The europe map annoyances was limited to that map. I also think some people got confused with 6.75.1223 which was a navteq map - which in places was more up to date than the teleatlas europe cockup from tomtom. |
