Tom Tom Maps

I am often called out by the local Ambulance service to attend emergency calls. I have Tomtom installed but find that the maps are way out of date. Last night I was called out and found that the road I wanted was not in the database even though it was built several years ago. I tried City maps and this direcetd me to a road with the same name which was over 20 miles away.
To give you another example of the poor mapping I will explain that the maps have a road close to where I live that was removed in 1961.
Has anyone any suggestions for changing to a different system that I could use on my Toshiba E350 that will keep me up to date with the roads please?

Unfortunately none are bang up to date. The two major providers of map data Navtech and TeleAtlas are constantly surveying new roads and collating information for map updates but this data can take up to 5 years to make it into a release. The economics of this are such that map updates tend to only be released with new versions of the applications.

Given your requirements I could not recommend any current GPS system, even the £2000+ in-car systems suffer from these map issues Sad

Many thanks for the reply.
I understand what you are saying but a road that was removed 43 years ago hardly fits into the category. Even the simplest street map has taken that into consideration.
I have to say that there are literally hundreds of wrong entries and in my home town I can think of at least 50, many of them years out of date. In one case there is a rode listed that has never existed!!

Dave, what product are you using at the moment, is it both CityMaps and Navigator or just the one?

Normally I use just Tomtom2 but after the episode last evening I loaded City Maps to see if the mapping was any better. But alas when I fed in the road name it directed me to a town many miles away!.
I have now removed City Maps.
Thanks for all your help.
PS. Fortunately the person I was directed to made a full recovery so at least it was a happy ending but no thanks to Tomtom.
