Hello everybody Smile

I would like to ask about how sensitive is the GPS of Garmin Venture CX. I know there are better device HCx with higher sensitivity but I want to use the gps only for cycling and I can find Venture Cx very cheap. Do you think I will have problems losing the signal in a town with high buldings ?

Thanks

Hi Smile
I have a Garmin Vista Cx which is similar to the model you mention but with sensors. My experience with it in Edinburgh city says yes, you will have problems with the signal in a town with high buildings. You may lose the signal, it doesn't like any sort of overhead cover, and reflections off building cause the tracking to be inaccurate at times.

Before getting an HCx, you might want to wait to see if Garmin fix the low speed logging problem, maybe not an issue with normal cycling but certainly is at slow walking speeds.

Thanks for the answer Smile Do you lose the signal very often in Edinburgh or it's something it happens at times? HCx series are very expensive in my Country (~600$) and import costs a lot :P

It loses the signal at times. However, if surrounded by tall buildings there is often not enough satellites for an accurate position and the track log may not show any position or be out by 50-70m.
I usually use a Garmin 76CSx which has none of these issues.

Shame about the more sensitive receivers being so expensive but I believe you'll be disappointed with the standard trail models in the city.
