Which country to buy your TomTom in?

I purchased my daughter a tomtom 1 vUK in September. She loves it but it annoys me that with no SD slot and only 512K of embedded memory she will have to take my slightly older TomTom with her when she takes her car onto the continent.

last week I was in the States. In Sears and Target you can buy a brand new TomTom one v3 with 1 Gb of internal memory loaded with maps of USA and Canada, a SD slot, bluetooth and a light sensor such that the screen adjusts its own brightness for maximum visibility day or night.

All this for $250 (about £130)

If you are about to buy your first tomtom and plan on travelling to the states in the future why not go online, buy a tomtom from a US website and then buy a UK map which you can install via the SD slot. A new tomtom, 1 Gb of ram and maps of USA, Canada and UK and the means to add further maps for about the same price as a UK tomtom with only UK maps and no opportunity to add any further maps! Seems a no brainer to me...

Be careful what you get if ordering over the phone or on-line.
According to the US TomTom Website, if it is a "ONE 3rd edition" it definitely doesn't have an SD card slot.
You must have seen the previous "New edition" as it is known in the UK, but on the US TT site seems to be just called the "One".
