ok had the usual smashed window and satnav gone
left my van for about a minute and came back and they'd long gone.
stole my beautiful 910 and the mount (off the windscreen )
anyway, I really need a new one for my job.
I loved the TTS on the 910, do any of the new models have it?
dont need euro maps yet (could upgrade next year if nec)
any offers about?
thanks _________________ Garmin Emap, Ipaq 2210 with TomTom Navigator 5, TomTom One, Pioneer AVIC-X1R, TomTom 910 (stolen). TomTom 520, TomTom 6100 (Faulty, replaced under warranty), Currently got a TomTom 6200 |

Try Amazon:
A TTG 720 (as @ 21h35 24/10/07) £259.40
A TTG 520 (as @ 21h35 24/10/07) £234.99
Both with FREE delivery or if you want it next day add approx £8 to those prices.
Still that's a £260 penalty + glass. |

autoglass wanted £260, got it done at a dealer for £99, bit of a difference!
Think I may go the Pda route, cause it will be easier to slip in the pocket.
Does the pda one have full post code search? _________________ Garmin Emap, Ipaq 2210 with TomTom Navigator 5, TomTom One, Pioneer AVIC-X1R, TomTom 910 (stolen). TomTom 520, TomTom 6100 (Faulty, replaced under warranty), Currently got a TomTom 6200 |

I'd still look at the 520/720. They are MUCH slimmer than the old models. Would slip in the pocket a treat.
And I don't think you'll get TTS on a PDA version will you? |

£224.99 for a 520 at Halfords if you checked the link I posted and use code SAVE25XM07 at the checkout.
Yes, the 520 has TTS, check the Halfords description.
The 520 is same as 720 except only 1GB internal memory and UK only maps. |

OK, I can get the 520 for £220.49 from Dixons, is this a good price? or are they about to drop in price in the next week?
I see Halfords are selling off loads of satnav's very cheap (910's for £130) but most branch's have sold them all (no suprise there!)
And finally, is the only difference between the 520 and the 720 the euro maps?
ps how does the speech recognition work in practise?

Difference is map and memory I think. Obviously the memory is adequate for the UK map, but you'd have problems if you wanted Euro map in future - it'd only be useable from an SD card, not the internal memory.
Speech recognition is in its early days. You can only just start using it for navigation instructions - select it after first tapping and going for navigate, then choosing speech, then you can only speak the city name, the street name and the house number, then you're back to tapping. At the number stage, the recognition often goes into fits and you have to try hard, or revert to tapping for the number. It's not great, but it has great potential - maybe in a few software updates' time? It's a real surprise and disappointment that it isn't better - having decided to have this feature, surely TT could have benefited from elsewhere? Speech recognition for typing is very old by now and they're only needing to recognise the pre-loaded words already in the device (maps or other stuff). I mean, even phones will do voice dialling won't they? _________________ Dennis

My 720 is 2GB - Euro map folder is already about 1.6GB. _________________ Dennis
