POI downloads for Tom Tom

Help! Definite novice here. I am trying to download POI's to our Tom Tom home page. Can this be done? We need hardware/home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowes, etc. I found a download and it is in a zip file, but I do not know how to download it to our Tom Tom. Thanks

The POI files you get from here (and other places) don't need 'Home' to load them. Home only really works for stuff you have got from TomTom themselves.

You un-zip the files (by right-clicking on them and selecting "extract all" if you have Windows XP or later.
Each POI category will comprise of an ov2 file (the data) and its corresponding bmp file (the icon).
You then use Windows Explorer to simply copy those files into the map folder of the TomTom.

The following bit cribbed from a very similar answer by Mike Alder a couple of days ago -
Switch on the TomTom and go to Change Preferences/ Show POI on map and make sure the POI files are selected. You can also use the Warn When Near POI option if you wish, to get the device to let you know when you are close to a POI you have installed (this later option is what people use for setting up the speed camera database warnings), but it can be employed for any POI Category you want.
