At the moment I have a Garmin I3 but am thinking of buying a Tomtom ONE XL. From what I've read on here I'm slightly confused as to the warnings the XL gives on speed cameras. Does it give both a verbal and visual warning or is it just visual? Can you set the distance the warning is given like you can on upload program for the I3?
TIA. |

TomTom's OWN camera database = visual flashing warning on screen plus non-customisable beep at fixed distance for all speeds.
PGPSWorld's database = visual flashing warning on screen plus customisable beep/sound effect, or real recorded voice, or text to speech voice (if your unit has TTS) all at a customisable distance which can be different for all speeds and types of camera.. |

Thanks for the quick reply. Does this customisation rely on a 3rd party app or is it part of the upload process to the ONE? |

The POI Warning is part of the TomTom application, all you need to do is put the POI files on the device and configure the warnings for each camera, once this is done updates are simply a matter of copying new POI data to the device using Windows Explorer, the settings will remain the same as they were previously.
For Spoken camera alerts I would take a look at This Page, which explains how to install and configure the device to acheive this, the page also links to the spoken alerts download page where you can choose from a number of different voices for the camera warnings. The spoken camera alerts will only work with the database from this site though, if you use the TomTom offering in way of speed cameras all you will ever get are simple beeps - Mike |
