Cus of my recent move to a 720 from a PDA i'm missing an explorer.Would be nice to be able to add/remove and save certain files
Is there anything out there that can do this as a 3rd party software.

The usuall procedure is to connect the TomTom via the USB lead, and the TomTom will show in "My Computer", as an external drive, which you can move/deleate/add files etc. Before you go messing with it, make sure you have a WINDOWS EXPLORER backup first. To do that look here.

I understand how to connect to a pc. I was thinking about an aplication to install into tomtom so it could be done whilst you were away from home.
I would regularly back up my saved POI of the destinations and also had a copy of the main setup file incase the program went corrupt. Also had a main backup of all the PDA incase the whole lot went.(which it has done a couple of times in its 3 or 4 years and tends to want to do it when i'm working away)

You could try Roussillat's TTExplorer.
As with all his applications, it was written using the TomTom SDK so may or may not work on v7 software.
He's usually quick to answer specific questions on HERE
