Hi All,

I had a search through the numerous threads and could not find what I was looking for, but hope that you can help.

I have recently purchased a Garmin Etrex whilst travelling in the USA. Whilst away with it, I used it to mark waypoints and record tracks and generally just played with it.

When I arrived home I bought the 9 pin cable to connect it to my laptop assuming that there would be some kind of basic software interface included.

Having searched through various forums, I began to use Bungee and Google Earth Pro to access the information that it contains. So far I have only been able to transfer way points as positions on GE.

So my questions are the following:

1. Is there any way of moving the rest of the data from the GPS to GE or is way points the only information that can be transferred?

2. A friend has a copy of Memory Map. Is this a simple program to plot routes on in the UK?

3. Is there anyway of testing whether I have full connectivity to the GPS from my laptop?

4. Any other helpful hints or information is most welcome.

Thank You in Advance.

Jamie

Hi,
There are a number of program for doing what you want. My own preference is GPSU from www.gpsu.co.uk
You can import track points and waypoints via the serial lead. Remember to set the interface to "Garmin" in the setup menu. GPSU offers conversion to a host of formats including GE.
GPSU is a shareware product but there is a freeware version which has a limit on the amount of data you may import. It gives you an opportunity to see if this does the job for you. There is no time limit on the freeware version.
