Both are availabe from Comet at £139. I understand V3 got the new software but droped the SD card slot.

Thanks for your help!

Correct, it also has no Bluetooth support. If you don't have any need to add European mapping and don't need Bluetooth (used to obtain PLUS Services such as traffic, weather etc) then I'd go with the newer v3.

Thanks for this.

So there is no way to add other maps using the internal memory?

Can the pre-loaded uk maps be updated then?

In addition, what's the biggest improvement of v3 over v2 in your opinion?

Thank you!

The constraint is the amount of internal memory (512Mb) on the regional model. You will of course be able to add POIs and update the map as new ones become available, there may even be enough room to add another country e.g. France but a map set such as the full Europe or US one requires more space.

V7 adds MapShare and other features but none are essential, perhaps a V3 now may be the best bet which still gives you the option to upgrade to v7 when it's released and allows you the flexibility of having an SD slot.

sorry to hijack the thread but I have a similar line of questioning that may be answered in this thread.

I am in a similar position but am looking at the WE version (europe maps). My main question is I am an Australian and would like to take the unit back home with me (in a year or so) and load the Au and NZ maps on them. Will either of the units (V2 or V3) allow me to do this?

Many thanks in advance.

thanks gardenshed.
also, were you able to fit the aussie maps on the same card (ie: the card that the unit came with) or did you have to buy another card? Not that it matters much, they are fairly cheap anyway.
final thing, if you buy the V2, does tomtom allow you to download the latest maps and updates (is it free)?
cheers

firstly i bought a 2gig card of play.com for £9.99 to enable me to have loads of stuff on mine, look at my post here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=59240&highlight=
amongst other things, maps voices etc Wink
yes all updates are free from the tt site, but you have to buy maps, even on the latest version you have to buy maps, only mapshare will be free i think, but they dont change that often inho!
i have had the aussie map western europe uk&ni all on the same card plus all the cams etc....

as an aside i used to live in Townsville qld m8 Wink Laughing

We have access to messages sent using the PM system. Whilst we do nor routinely monitor them, on occasion the nature of a post makes it clear that the PM system is being sued to discuss matters that we expressly forbid on our web site.

Your messages were unequivocal in their content and intent and our stance on the discussion of pirated software and sources of such are clear. I've given you your warning and so long as you adhere to the rules in future that is the end of the matter. Should you choose not to then we shall suspend your account.
