Hi folks,
I was using POEDIT to auto-download the UK speedcam files directly into my HP6515 from pocketgpsworld.com until recently.
Now that site is offline - anyone know how to use this site to do the same ?
Many thanks

I'm afraid it doesn't work.
A Search for POIEdit will reveal several Topics on the subject. _________________ Richard

Many thanks.
I'm not impressed.
Manually downloading critical speedtrap info is not a viable solution.
Time to get rid of the HP and buy a real system with a real subscription.
It'll suck no doubt - but at least it will update itself !!
Many thanks again
PS - PGPSW is missing an opportunity here ! :-)

the poi edit files have not been updated since february 2006 so your database will never have actually been updated since then!
unfortunately there is no way to monitor subscribers through poi edit hence why we stopped the service. it was only recently that we got a lot of queries as to why certain cameras were not in their poi edit download but were on our google map that we realised we still had the xml link on the site and this was then removed - hence your 'recent' loss of service.

As has been pointed out, we withdrew support for POIEdit when we moved to a subscription service back in Jan 2006. POIEdit does not support the security systems we have had to put in place to prevent piracy of the database.
We only recently became aware that a number of users were still using POIEdit in the mistaken belief that the database was current, as a result we have now pulled the feed completely to ensure the confusion does not continue.

You do not appear to have ever subscribed to our service, so you have been relying on a database that was 19mths out of date.

Sadly it is impossible to provide auto install solutions for many systems, we utilise systems such as Garmin's POILoader and TomTom's HOME wherever possible.
The download and installation of our database is a very simple process that requires a few minutes at most for the majority of devices, if you use Tomtom HOME it is simpler still. Whilst we appreciate that some users would prefer to use POIEdit the lack of security and the fact that it only supports a small subset of the devices for which we produce database version meant we could no longer continue to support it. _________________ Darren Griffin |
