Firmware for old TomTom ONE v1

(Apologies if this has been answered... I did try searching forums)

I've had a TT1 for 18 months, and found out recently that on the more recent TT devices, it is possible to navigate/find places by quickly entering a latitude/longitude. This feature isn't present on mine :-(

I suspect that if I started using TomTom HOME, this would update the firmware of the device, but would this add any new features, or just fix bugs etc? More importantly, would it give me the ability to use Lat/Long?

Just out of curiosity, is the firmware stored on the SD card, or is it flashed onto a chip internally?

V6 software has "Navigate to..." lat long (and an option to view it always on "Browse Map" too)

You can get it via Home, or v6.52 (which works on your One) is also available for (easy) manual install HERE

(I've just noticed there is also a later version for the ONE only, but I don't know if that is for ALL Ones.)

Quite a few new features and the menus are rearranged somewhat.

PS, you didn't say what version you're running at the moment. You can see that in the box under the battery level meter on the route summary page.

Just checked, I'm running v5.410... seems archaic.

For the manual install, how is this done? Is it simply copying those files on your website to a particular folder on the SD card?

Is there any risk involved in upgrading firmware? Is it possible to backup the original firmware before upgrading?

Backup EVERYTHING in one go first.
See the TomTom FAQs 'sticky' topic in this forum.
Then follow that manual install link I gave you. Download the zip archive, then unzip the files (in Windows XP right click on the zip and select "extract all").
One of the files created is a text file with the (VERY) simple instructions.
Basically, if I remember right, it is copy and pasting about 6 files onto your SD card to replace 6 old ones.
