Hi everyone Here is my Dilemma,

Unit - HP Compaq iPAQ 3970

Software - TomTom6

I received the unit today but have been unable to get TomTom6 to work. The "GPS Viewer" program currently installed on the 3970 locates the bluetooth GPS unit without a problem and gives me my current location altitude etc so i know the GPS unit is working.

However with the TomTom6 CD i got with the unit i am having problems getting it running. "Setuptt6" installs fine and "TomTom Navigator" appears in the start menu. "tt6today" will not install as it remains stagnant in the loading screen and does not load (I ended up cancelling the install).

When i try to run "TomTom Navigator" it displays an error messge indicating "it cannot find TT Nav or one of its components. Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the libraries are available"

I copied the TomTom6 folder to the 3970 as indicated in the readme file and i have had no luck whatso ever...

I am looking for some help so if you can help me please feel free to do so,

Kind Regards,

Simon

You could try copying the .CAB files from the CD to the memory card using a PC based card reader/writer. Then execute each .CAB file in turn.

I did my TT6 install from a downloaded kit from TT's web site - which is effectively the same as outlined above.

The instruction to copy from the TomTom6 folder to your device seems a little suspicious - I wouldn't expect that. At least TT5 never did that. Pardon me for asking but it is a genuine TomTom distribution isn't it?

The PDA unit was bought via Ebay and came with a CD "Tomtom 6" which i am trying to install at the moment so im not too sure wether it is a genuine product bought from TomTom or a Ripped copy.

The CD has these files listed in it that i transferred to the Memory Card onto the PDA

- extra (Folder)
- MAP (Folder)
- Readme (text document)
- Setuptt6 (5,378kb)
- tt6today (209kb)

the Readme lists this text if it helps authenticate the Copy

"Pls copy files/folders under "Tomtom6" to root of SD card."

If anyone can help me with maybe a walkthrough as to how to get TomTom 6 up and running or maybe refer me to a website with a walkthrough it would very much appreciated.

Thankyou Kindly

Simon.

Unless this is a clearly branded TomTom Install CD and you have a Product Key Card then this is pirated software.

As we take a strong line on such software we will not assist in installing it, sorry.

The CD isn't clearly labelled so it must be a pirated copy, it was in the box with the PDA i bought, Hence this is why it doesnt work im assuming.

Thanks for that info guys ill get my hands on a genuine copy and hopefully i wont have any problems installing it as i have done with this copy.

Regards,
Simon.

P.S. this Topic can probably be deleted unless you want to use it as an example of why Pirated Software isn't the way.

I'm sure you understand why we have to take a stance in such cases but don't let this frighten you away! Come back when you have the official software and we'll happily walk you through any issues you may encounter Thumbs Up
