I'm afraid that many of the built-in POI categories are dreadful. To be honest I thought that they must have improved since my map (v6.60) as no-one else seems to complain.
My map only of the UK and Eire ONLY has Doctors and Dentists who work in Dublin!
It has an entire "Libraries" category with only one entry!
When I told TomTom that this wasn't just poor, it was just taking the p*ss and virtually criminal to advertise it with comprehensive POIs, they just told me to get them from somewhere else. |

Have a look at the POI Downloads Page Here where you can select what you want f4rom the list and download POI's that are considerably more accurate.
Just remember the limit of 100 Custom POI files on your device, any more than 100 ov2 files in the map folder and your device will not work as expected - Mike |

Have a read of This Guide, it is intended for the speed camera database but the method of installation to your device is the same for any custom POI file - Mike |

The usual way is to extract the files to the PC and then copy them top the TomTom.
How did you "go into the TomTom"? What where you looking for, and where did you look?
Can you go through the steps that you actually took. Which screen you did what on, etc.
We might find a clue as to where the problem is then. _________________ Richard

OK, i downloaded the files then opened them and highlighted them ready for extracting to the (E) drive which is my tomtom when i plugged it in, the files were transfered to the tomtom, i didn't get any error messages so I asume that they are now in the tomtom, disconnected the tomtom and switched it back on, went to:
change preference's
manage POIs
this is where i think i've gone wrong???

You probably Unzipped them to the wrong folder!
As I said, it's better to Unzip to the PC and then copy them to the Map Folder. That way you can select the Files and know exactly where they are going.
If the Files are in the Map Folder, you go to Change Preferences | Manage POI ! Warn When Near. If they are in the correct place you will be able to Select them from the List of all the POIs, including the TT built-in ones. _________________ Richard

Think i've done it, got the little icons for Esso and BP etc etc, however alot of the POIs only cover Kent and SE London, is this down to what people have upload onto that zip file, or do i have to expand the range or something?
Thanks

If, when you are looking to Navigate to ..., or Via, a POI it will only show you the POIs that are nearest to you. The list is limited to 100 entries.
If you use Browse Map, and Enable the particular POI and zoom in on Glasgow, for instance, you will see that there are locations everywhere.
If you select POI in City and use Cardiff, you will see a whole new List of locations. _________________ Richard

Good to hear you got there in the end - just a word of caution that both Richard and myself have mentioned earlier - DON'T PUT ANYMORE THAN 100 CUSTOM POI's ON THE DEVICE, keep a track of exactly how many files ending with .ov2 are in your map folder. Mike |
