I have been downloading the UK POI dbase for the past year (downloading to my Garmin 2720). However, I am off to France next week so I thought I'd download the European dbase which supposedly includes the UK ? Imagine my surprise when I noted that the UK dbase has 10,000+ entries whereas the European dbase has but 7000 or so.
I have verified that my local speed traps are no longer visible so have clearly been deleted / over-written.
What should I do please?

Yes, it's the speed camera dbase that I was discussing.
Yes, I assume that the European dbase would include the UK because the UK is part of Europe If I had wanted to differentiate between the two I might have named the latter Continental Europe. However, what would you recommend as I cannot update my Garmin with another dbase as I cross the channel !
Thanks !

John | Historically the database started for the UK. Then holiday makers started reporting what they had seen. The option was then to create a DB for each European country, with the overhead that would create or have a single "European database (not including UK) for your holidays". Given that these numbers were much smaller than the number reported in the UK the latter seemed most logical (This is all guess/conjecture on my part, but sounds likely in theory. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.) There is a table here that gives you the comparative numbers.
As far as the use of the DBs on your Garmin, I don't use one myself. Have a search through the Garmin forums, because there has been discussion about mixed databases recently. _________________ Jock

I cannot answer for the garmin in question but for my Garmin 60CSX I would use the UK zonned database [unzipped to a known location] and then add the unzipped Continental cameras to the same location, and then load them to the Unit with Garmin POI loader from the file. You then have all the POIs loading at the same time 'overwriting' the existing camera locations.
Is this what you wanted to know or have I mis-read your posting? |

Is this what you wanted to know or have I mis-read your posting? | I think some of the info I read, but now can't find, had to do with conflict between the MPH UK Db and the KPH Euro Db.
[Edit]
Have a look at this.
But, be aware that swing wrote: | If you search the forums there are a number of suggestions for having both mph and kph alerts at the same time - basically you either change the values in one set of files to the other units, or you use the multiple POI Loader upload tricks (not available on all units). | If Swing sees this thread, maybe he will clarify which units can/cannot use this workaround?

If you used POILoader to load the new database then it wipes out all exisiting POIs first. In order to load both database you need to put them both into the same folder on your PC and then upload them both at the same time using POILoader. |

Thanks all, I have now downloaded both France and UK into the same folder and successfully downloaded the lot. However, I do have the concern that nt Garmin could possible assume that kph based limits / speed cameras are in fact mph 8O
Can anyone clarify the position please? |

When in this country set you Unit to mph and in France to kph!
