Did you take a back up of the original card before it was put into another device? - if not I suggest you take the device back to where you bought it from and say its broke - Mike

If you have a blank card spare from the PDA format that and put it in the 510, now restore the back-up from the PC using TT Home - Mike

thankyou for your help mike, the next installment of this saga is : i put the card into my card reader in the pc and is saw the files so i have copied them to my pc, but after that i put it back into the tomtom and it's working now :S

2 more questions if i may please

1: would you think this card is on the blink and i should copy the files onto another card and either use that instead or carry it around with me as a back up ??

2: that restore thingy on tomtom home how long does that take ?, because i tried that earlier and after a few minutes nothing had happened ??

Is the TomTom now working or not?
If it is working with the PDA SD card leave it alone, take a back-up/ copy using Windows Explorer and don't put the card in your mate device, you can wipe the original card and put the files back on it using the original back-up in the same mannor you created the working card.

I suggest you take some time out to read the FAQ Page where you will find a number of guides/ pages of information that are very handy - Mike

Now it's up and running, go here,

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=50045

Have a read of number 1, (To start with), and copy your SD card onto your computer. Then get another SD card, preferably a fast read, and copy the copy on your computer, onto the new SD card. Then put the TomTom card away in a safe place, and use the new card as your working card. Then, just incase, burn the backup, on the computer to a CD.

In & out of units or card readers can move the lock tab on the card.

Ensure it's FULLY in the up position.

Going right back to your original post, I suspect your mate took the card out while the TT was trying to write to it.
I would suggest you always power down the TT before you insert or remove the card, and always use "safely remove hardware" on the PC when it is connected to that.
