Have a look in the zip folder of the device are there any files in the folder, as this is where the postcode data should reside.
Probably a long shot but did you back-up the device before you started messing with the 510 - Mike

Only think of 2 things.

Did you use HOME or Explorer to do the Backup?

Have you tried Restoring with the SD Card in a Card Reader?

Have a look in your back up file on the PC, to locate this start TomTom Home and click the Advanced Tab, one of the three file selections will be for back ups - write this down.
Stop TomTom Home and start up Windows Explorer, drill down through the file/ folder structure to the same location as written down above, in this folder will be a folder named zip (assuming the back up worked correctly) - are there any files withing this folder on the PC? - Mike

If it copied the file to the device and the postcodes now work then its fine, I see nothing wrong in what you have done - if the file is intact it should work - try Navigate To/ Address/ Postcode enter FY43NN and what road does the device offer you? - if t works you will soon know- Mike
