Hi
This is my first post to the forum and I must say it is a wealth of information, absolutely invaluable.
I just have a few questions about the Navigon range of in-car GPS systems and if anyone has any views, good or bad about them, as I am considering purchasing one. I had to bring back my TomTom Go 710 because of continual resetting problems. I don`t really want to get another TomTom as I would prefer Navteq maps and I don`t trust that make anymore. I have a credit note for Maplin, so I can only get one from there.
I was wondering about the difference between the Navigon TS7000T and the new Navigon 7100(not released yet).
1. Why in Maplin is the TS7000T more expensive than the 7100?
2. What are the differences?
3. Do they use Navteq maps?
4. Are they any good?
Any advice would be welcome and thanks in advance :D
Thank you |

Not really an answer to any of the questions you have asked, but a note of caution.
The Navigon software does not allow custom POIs.
You have to use POIWarner (which is a downloadable program which costs about €30) to add custom POIs, including the PGPSW speedcam database.
I have used Navigon software on a PDA for navigation for a few years, and I really like it. However, I do seem to be in a very small minority as most of the contributors seem to find it slow and have a difficult to master interface.
Just a thought on the pricing question; I think that the older TS7000 has pan-European mapping whereas the 7100 only has UK maps. However, it does seem that the new 7110 (which has European mapping and which Maplin are not stocking according to their website) is still cheaper than the TS7000!
So I suppose the answer is "No, I don't know why the 7100 is cheaper than the TS7000" |

IIRC the T7000T comes with a subscription to Talex' safety cam database which might explain the cost issue. TBH I have a 7000 here and it's not great. The display is good and clear but the menus are unintuitive, the unit is very slow to change pages etc and it lacks any active cradel so power, TMC antenna etc need to be plugged in every time you use the unit.
I appreciate you've had problems with the 710 but I'd have one over a Navigon 7000 any day and in my experience Navteq mapping is no better than TeleAtlas when compared overall, yes they have better coverage of Ireland and coverage of the Channel Islands but aside from that they have as many errors as TA do.
I have a 910 which has worked faultlessly since I first had it. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Agreed. People will compare Navteq and Tele Atlas all the time, but I have had no problems with TA maps - they are accurate as they come. Also, I've used the 910 and it worked right out of the box. |
