Anyone know the differences between the Garmin Nuvi 660 and 670 apart from the fact that the 670 has US maps? Are the maps newer on the 670?

I believe the 670 has an FM transmitter as well. 660 has an FM transmitter but it is disabled in Europe. The 660 FM has it enabled but not many places seem to sell this version.

Thanks for the info. So apart for the US maps on the 670 it's basically the same unit. I also heard a few issues with the Garmin 660 crashing etc. What are the main Garmin 660 issues? Was thinking of selling in my Navman and getting a 660 or a new Mio C520t, but need maps of Eastern Europe as well.

I have just brought the Nuvi 670 on the 12th of May after returning my Nuvi 360 back to the shop. It has the FM transmitter which makes a huge difference on motorways for instructions.

The nuvi also comes with Traffic Master Channel as well though you don't get a signal straight away but when you do the coverage is very extensive. I'm in Newcastle on Tyne, lastly it comes with maps of City Navigator Europe NT and. So far I haven't had problems with it but have not taken it for a long run yet.

Just tested one at Halfords. Didn't realised the map redraw rate was so jerky/slow when I was dragging the map around with my finger. They had the 660FM on display. Nice to see Eastern Europe on there which was useful, but the map refresh rate was a big put-off.

I never had the chance to try the map redraw rate on the 660, on the 670 it is a perhaps slow at times though to tell you the truth being able to use it is a bonus.
If you take your time and wait for it to catch up it's not too bad. I don't know if there is any other sat navs that have this capability so that they can be compared. Does anyone have any info on this ?

How often will you be dragging the map around with your finger though? This is not representative of the general map refresh of the unit.

However, it is generally said that the Garmin is not as smooth as a TomTom is (as an ex-TomTom user, I can say you get used to it though and it's not that bad) and more importantly, the Garmin seems to work best when a route is planned (whether you are following the route to the letter or not).

I don't like TomToms anyway, but I know the refresh rate they use is faked a bit as they plot points inbetween the 1 second rate GPS signal they receive as well if you see what I mean.

Anyway I have a Navman ICN 530 ATM which shows updates every second, like Garmin, but the screen seems to refresh quicker on the Navman than on the Garmin.

One other question though. Can I see my current speed on the Garmin whilst the route/map is showing? All I can see is the time of arrival and distance to go or a turn I think.

No, that's not possible on most Garmin models.
