Tomtom for PDA and Japan

So, I've been looking at purchasing a PDA with GPS capabilities but I'm going to be headed to Japan this August for at least a year. All of the models I've been looking at use Tomtom but when I took a look at the Tomtom website they didn't seem to have any maps of Japan.

So, I was wondering if there is anywhere that I could get maps of Japan for a Tomtom unit or if there is any other software I could buy and install that would let me have maps of Japan? If any of you have other ideas those would be great, too.

You definitely should not get a TomTom device. If you use a PDA then you may have a slim chance of buying a map there and installing it on the PDA.

I am not aware of any english language maps for Japan though, so you better understand Japanese.
