Preloaded and custom POIs in Garmin Nuvi 310

Hi!

Still new to all this so bear with me!

I've read on the forum already that my maps are out of date on my new Garmin Nuvi 310 that I just bought but as I understand they will send me a disc with up to date ones now I've registered.

I loaded the firmware updates and got the 3 month free speed camera subscription from Garmin. In addition I downloaded a few of the POI's off this site which work great for me.

So I'm doing OK so far but I wanted to know a couple of questions.

Firstly, my device seems to have a fair amount of POI's built in under the categories under "Where to" such as parking, shopping, etc. The POI's off this site come under my locations - custom POI's. Is there any way to integrate these into the preloaded categories or do they always have to be held under custom POIs?

Also, under proximity points, I have alerts ticked under Safety cameras and custom POIs. I haven't driven near a custom POI yet but does this mean that the device will alert me when I do go close to one? If so, how close do I have to be? Will it work in the same way as when I go past a speed camera?

in poi loader there is an option on one of the first screens for setting speed (mph / kph) and an option for 'automatic mode' or 'manual mode'. in manual mode you go through each poi file one by one and choose if you want a warning or not.

take note that if you add a proximity alert for something like mcdonalds then you will be continuously bombarded by BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP when you drive near a town center!!!
