Is it possible to set up warnings of speed cameras for more than one distance? Say 300m, 200m and 100m.
I sometimes am in deep thought and may miss the first warning.

Yes you can do this, by making a second set of the POI database, the second set must have a different name to the individual POI files i.e.
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.bmp
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ogg (if used)
Would end up thus:
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.bmp
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ogg (if used)
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30_a.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30_a.bmp
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30_a.ogg (if used)
Each Gatso 30 warning will now have its own unique settings and different distances may be applied - note the above example only covers a single camera type (gatso 30) you would have to repeat the duplication for each camera category - but it can be done. Bear in mind the TomTom software you have can only accept 100 custom POI categories, so keep an eye on the numbers of .ov2 files you place in the map folder.
Towards the end of This Guide is a look up table for setting distance relative to time which can be quite handy when doing this sort of set-up - Mike |

An easier way might be to produce your own .ogg audio files with the warning repeated twice or even three times. (Audacity is a good free edit program you can use to make them).
Most people set up their warnings on a 'sliding' distance scale to give them aproximately the same time of warning (say 20 seconds) anyway (see Mikes link above for the distance chart), so although the warning will only get triggered once at the first distance, it would then get repeated after 10 seconds or whatever i.e. at half the distance.
The only problem I can see is that any navigation instructions may possibly not sound while the camera warning is still running, I can't remember.
Not one of my clearest descriptions, but I hope you get what I'm on about! |

The directions voice over rides the camera warning prompts, so if a very long audio ogg file were produced the chances are it would not finish playing it if a nav prompt were issued - Mike |

One day my Prince will come and make Gatso:12962@30 and Gatso:12964@30 give me their warnings at the right time/distance.
When I'm heading south, 12962 (northbound) warns and counts down until long after I'm past it, and delays 12964 from warning me until I've reached the end of its road markings (and been flashed, except that I never get flashed because I'm a lovely, speed limit obeying whitevanman). When heading north, 12964 warns and delays the warning for 12962 likewise. They are each at the end of a short stretch of "dual carriageway" (central reserve) with a gap halfway along which allows turning round - northbound camera warns on the assumption that I may turn and go north and is still warning after I haven't turned round. _________________ Dennis

Have a look at POI Warners like CheckPoint, reviewed on this site (free! see http://checkpoint.oabsoftware.nl/). You can set up first warnings, a speed warning and a last warning in CheckPoint. There is another at www.poiwarner.de which is currently 19.99 Euro. I cannot see the advantage of poiwarner yet. |
