No not a typo...
Does anyone know if it's possible to load v2.70 back onto a Nuvi 660 that has v3.60 on it? If so how? YOu used to be able to doit by downloading the .exe and running it... But webupdater seems to be a bit more facist than that... |

Never mind... I took the plunge, googled & found a copy of nuvi660_270.exe on gpsinformation.org. It kindly upgraded me back to 2.70. Hopefully Garmin will fix the traffic someday in v3 |

Did this downgrade your GTM module too, or just the main unit?
PS - The System About does not reflect the version installed in the GTM module, only the version the main unit thinks it's got - did the unit perform a Traffic Module software upgrade as part of the firmware "upgrade" or not? _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Nope. No firmware was downloaded to the GTM. It' still at 4.1. FWIW I went from Maidenhead to Dorking today. Via the M25. The only place I got TM messages was on the dorking high street by the leisure centre. Apart from that, nothing.
v2.70 traffic though is way better than v3. You get traffic on the map, the blue diamod works when there's no traffic message, there's an empty list , the blue diamon gives a scrollable list of all items, in distance order, and you can then look at the traffic map if you need to.
What the F*&%K were Garmin thinking of removing most of that? Are they on drugs? |

Actually, having had a chance to compare the two side by side, I feel the new interface (traffic information screen) is a little bit of an improvement because unless you know the area well, you get more useful information presented to you with the first click.
However, I wish it then reverted to the old list style, not the new scroll through each in turn to find out about what's wrong, which takes extra button presses (a UI no-no when dealing with driving related UIs).
Having said that, I prefer seeing the actual traffic on the main map screen too, which is missing from the new interface. Why oh why couldn't Garmin make it optional, and set it as off by default - I understand why they made these changes, but they really could have thought about their established userbase first - oh, and they really should update all the images on their website to relfect the lack of map based traffic information too... _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Ah... herein lies the flaw in Garmins 'new' interface. You need to click. To click, you need to lift your hand off the steering wheel while driving, focus on the screen, hold you hand steady & hit the right buttons... It takes time. Enough time for someone to pull in front, kids to run out in front etc... Very dangerous.
If the damn info was on the map screen where it's supposed to be you only need to flick your eyes across from road to screen & back again. Just like looking in the rear view mirror.
I suspect that whoever designs their interface doesn't drive. And whoever tests it isn't driving at the time. And certainly not driving in traffic. |

I downgraded as I also prefered the old traffic interface... The only thing is that when downgrading you will loose the user data. That means; your favorites, recently found, home, bluetooth, etc.
I wish there was a way to back up this information?? |

Hello,
How did you succeed to downgrade? When I try to apply this 2.70 over a 3.60 version I get the following message: "No updates are available for your product"
I am trying to do that because in 3.60 my 660 is not able to boot (get shutdown after Loading Maps screen). Therefore I plugged the unit when it was booting in pre mode and pressed the RESET button to reach the "System Software Missing" screen.
Now the unit is recognized by my XP but not able to downgrade :-( (If I re install the 3.6 I get the same trouble)
Thanks for you help

Wow, this is interesting, I might try this downgrade. But does anyone know if there's a way to get the TMC software back to 3.7? |

I don't know how to downgrade the TMC software... anyway it works as well as it did in the "old days" so I can't see why you would want to?? |

You can downgrade the Nuvi unit firmware, but there is no way to downgrade the GTM firmware. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

You update by using the actual 2.70 .exe file in Windoze, rather than the simplistic web updater program. If you search on google, you'll find a copy on gpsinformation.net (I think someone put the actual URL up round here somewhere too... Sorry, don't have it on me at the moment). |
