Right.

having exhausted my patience on my current support email with Garmin regarding pants reception of the GTM-21, I've emailed them asking them to send me in writing an undertaking to honor my warranty if I make the necessary mods to my GTM-21 to attach an amplified aerial (Split from my car aerial amp) to boost the signal.

We'll see how I get on... I figure the next step after that is the advertising people, Watchdog and the commerce commission (I"m a little off).

I am extremely interested if you keep us updated here, I have also spoken to Garmin and despite speaking to three different people I have been fobbed off as quote: don't know what you are talking about, as no one else has complained, or to discuss it with Trafficmaster - who i find don't want to know.

I have some day's where i have loads of info from 100 miles away (have mentioned this before on the other thread, not sure here whether i'm picking up "freak" signals in East Kent) and other day's, like yesterday when it was raining, where it was completely dead.

I have booked my car for an aerial amp to be fitted but it is still unknown whether this will work, as i'm told it isn't consistant on all types of aerials.

This is poor show by Garmin. Garmin are well aware of the problems, and have been for many months now, starting with the Nuvi 310 car charger saga, and all along with the general state of their GTM12/21 TMC receivers.

I suspect the new firmwares we are seeing are a direct result of someone within Garmin wanting to actually fix the problem (if they can) and reduce the amount of returns they are getting.

Trafficmaster, quite correctly, are no longer customer facing, having chosen to mainly sell their services through third parties, in this case, Garmin. Garmin should be fielding any and all questions, including those on TMC radio mast outages (which is information they are provided by Trafficmaster). However, no one in Garmin UK takes responsbility for TMC, or if there is someone, they ensure the 1st and 2nd line support aren't allowed to give out their name...

Garmin - prove me wrong - privately contact me, through PM or through the PGPSW mods with details of who is responsible for TMC in the UK...

I am still waiting for an appointment, they are only a small business and they were going to talk to Garmin before attempting the work, will let you know if any progress.

Well. Status so far is

Garmin problem ticket on the mods & keeping warrenty = Unanswered.

Garmin problem ticket on the 'dangerous' traffic interface.. I got an email back from someone in the US, who was interested in passing on some suggestions to the developers...
Needless to say I passed some on... Politely...

I did see red when I saw a garmin 660 add in T3 over the weekend. 'Real Time Traffic notifications'. I complained to Advertising standards. I got areply saying they're looking into it...

eMail to Watchdog has gone un-noticed so far...

Looks like the usual so far then -

Garmin have still got their head in the sand. Embarassed

Advertising standards are waiting for a nod from Health & Safety to clear a risk assessment, on whether they can pick up the weight of a phone safely. Rolling Eyes

There are two Trafficmaster coverage maps on Garmin's website. One seems to be for the free service and shows 'limited' coverage' nationwide: http://www.garmin.com/products/gtm11/coverage.jsp#uk, and the other for the subscription service and shows both 'full' and 'limited' coverage nationwide: https://shop.garmin.com/fmtraffic/select_service_plan.asp?L=EN&CR=2&PR=2.

This suggests that the free service is inferior to the subscription service. I've asked Garmin whether this is the case and am waiting on a response.

Get good traffic reception at home in Sheffield, but none at all on a journey from Sheffield to Lincoln yesterday!

Apparantly, there is a new GTM software update due soon (version 4.20). Hopefully it will help!? Confused

Are there any other subscription services that will work with the Nuvi?

Nuvi 660
SW 3.6
GPS SW 2.90
GTM SW 4.10
GTM21

There is no such thing as a free service, or a premium service in the UK - you pay a single fee in the UK to receive a single level of traffic. I think the difference in the maps is the different units - basically the first map is specific to the (now discontinued) GTM11, whereas the second map is an overall map covering all the different units, including the GTM12 and GTM21.

No, there are no other subscription services that will work with the Nuvi - there are 2 in the UK, and in terms of reception problems, both suffer when used with portable SatNav units.
