Probably!
Others have [me included] with the payment part.
Make sure that you have already set up your account with Garmin and pay seperately through that rather than following the links from the installation!
The problems really start after all that, as there are inbuilt problems that do not allow you to use swiss motorways on some units.
Slow redraw.

Not for everyone. Only those that bought there devices recently get a free upgrade. Owners of older devices have to pay. There have been some problems with the payment side apparently.
As you didn't make it clear you had a free upgrade strumble replied regarding these problems.... |

Sorry, but looking back at my original post the word "Free" appears before the words "v9" & "upgrade" in the first line.
But that does'nt matter now, because I thought I would just let anyone who was waiting for their upgrade to hang in there, they wiil get them eventually... |

You're right. Sorry but i mis-understood and thought "free" was referring to the free DVD and not the fact you got a free upgrade. |

Due to budget constraints I'll not be upgrading from v8 for a while despite having just received the v9 disk. When you say smaller map tiles do you mean that the tile sizes are now back to pre v8 size on the non NT v9 version of City Navigator? If that's true I can't quite believe it... Have Garmin listened and acted on complaints? _________________ Chas

Hi M8
Which units are you talking about? I'm living in Switzerland and my Q2 (with NTv9 maps on it) works as expected on those, at least in my region around Zurich. Do you have an example on where it doesn't?

We [on another forum] have found severe drawbacks when using the new non-NT v9 on the iQue 3600. The v9 software has been programmed in a way that iQues avoids all Toll AutoRoutes in Switzerland and sometimes Austria! Changes/options within the unit fail to get the required result!
The test case we were trying was Zurich to Basel.
Another trial was a route I did last summer, Grand Bornand to Lausanne with a caravan! It will not use your Autoroute [even though I paid for your 'sticker' for car and caravan]. A screenshot of both routes is enclosed.
The most interested in the results was a member from your area BeatO --Zurich!
We have been in touch with Garmin and they have admitted it is a 'known' problem!
There are other known issues for the iQue [and 60CSX], slow route calculation and re-draw! |

Hi M8
As I was driving to work this morning it popped into my mind as you said. In Switzerland, the autoroutes are "kind of" pay roads but as you said, unlike France and Italy you only have to pay once a year the CHF 40 for the sticker.
I tried it on my Q2 with the NTv9 maps on it and set the option to avoid toll roads. That gave the result you've been explaining, it does not use autoroutes anymore, which kind of is correct. Turning the option off again it reverted to the behavior as before, which means correctly using the autoroutes.
This means, that the units not working correctly don't have a switch for turning this toll road avoidance on/off? Or have a bug in the firmware to correctly honor the setting?! It doesn't look that the NT version on the Q2 has that problem, and if you say not all the units have it, it looks quite like the mapping data seems correct.
