|
|
Hi all - first time poster here.
I'm thinking of buying TomTom3 but am unsure whether it fits my requirements. Is it possible to select a destination by simply clicking on a map - my work takes me to sites in the countryside etc that do not have post codes and are often on unclassified minor roads. I know where I'm going but I want guidance on how to get there. Can TT3 cope with this or does it insist on only recognising destinations selected from lists in its database? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I haven't been able to find the answer elsewhere. |

When in Map mode, you can select any point on the map but it will always "snap" to the nearest available road. I just tried it and it will not allow you to select a point in the middle of a field for example where there is no road. Besides, how could it give you directions, where there is no road?
Have a look on this site, there are reviews of topographical programs where you can add your own scanned in images and then us GPS to show your position. |

If the unclassified road shows on TT3 in Map mode you simply hold the stylus down on it and a menu pops up. Select "Navigate to" and it'll do it. This worked exceptionally well for me in East Lincolnshire when I was doing farm deliveries. Nearly all the single track "roads" leading up to the farms were shown. |

Yes of course, but I had read that he wanted to venture away from unclassified roads, in which case it won't work. But you are correct, you can navigate to any road on the map regardless of whether it has a name or not.
Too early in the morning for thinking . . . |

Alot of farm tracks show up on TT3. Likewise I could navigate to a private road that was actually in the grounds of a Chemical plant. I delivered to an ex-RAF base and all of its road layout showed up too. Basically, if it shows up on the map, whether it is a A-E class road, track or private road in grouns, you can navigate to it. |
