Hi.
What sort of signal strength do you need for TMC messages? In the GTM status screen it shows signal strengths up to 40 in my car, but no messages (Last message & count stay at 0). This is at the top of the hill where the A404 joins the M40 (High Wycombe)... So it SHOULD have good reception...
It also got nothing between home (Maidenhead) and Dorking yesterday, across the M4, M25 etc... (But I didn't know about the status screen then, so I don't know what sort of signal I was getting)
At home (Mounted in the car) it's still in the 30's... No messages... But for some reason if I go into my office (At home), the signal hits a max of 46, and messages scroll in (13 this morning by the looks)...
What sort of signal do others see when they're getting reception?
Nuvi is v3.50, GTM is v4 (Updated all yesterday when I got it).
TIA
Hamish. |

Getting 30's-40's on my 660 (V3.50)/ GTM21 (V4.00)
The signal strength is only a rough indication and what you describe is not uncommon with FM signals. _________________ Phil |

How can you tell what signal strength you are receiving? I cannot find a screen that tells me that information. |

It's on the 'hidden' screens.
With map page showing; touch Speed (no route) or ETA (with route) and you get the cockpit style view.
I press the middle of this screen for approx 6-10 secs and it switches to the hidden screens. Other people mention particular displays areas on this screen - (seems to be a wide area?)
TAKE CARE - FROM HERE IT IS POSSIBLE TO ALTER THINGS YOU MAY WISH YOU HADN'T TOUCHED
Keep pressing the NEXT button and eventually (about 6 pages later?) you come upon the TM screen which will show you information about what FM channel (in GARMIN code) is being listened to and signal strength as well as number of messages received and other bits and pieces.
Obviously the unit must be mounted in it's holder with the GTM21 connected for infomation to be shown.
Keep pressing BACK to return to the MAP page. _________________ Phil |
