I've just noticed that there is a Euro camera database in the downloads section. I'm curious as to what countries this covers and how many camera sites it has.
What map folder would it have to go in? Would it be one copy of the database in each European map folder that has camera sites listed?
Thanks

How did you manage to get the figures? Is there a way of opening and reading the contents of the database files?
The coverage doesn't look very comprehensive to me . I'm not sure that's really worth bothering with!

You need to get hold of a programme called POIEdit. (There may be other similar programmes but its the one I use)
Here's the link http://www.poiedit.com/downloads.htm
With this programme you can create, edit, open .ov2 or other format POI files. There is a map function so that you can see exactly where these items are on the map and by grid reference.
I opened the european camera file and copied it to excel. I then checked the location of the cameras in POIEdit and noted locations in excel.
If you surf around the various european websites and use google earth - you can pick up many more safety camera sites throughout europe and build your own file. I did that last year for france.
I found a number of free databases, added them together and with POIEdit there is a menu function that looks for duplicate entries and I removed one of the duplicate entires. The database worked reasonably well.
Regards

MaFt | But, if you are travelling, please report any cameras that you see! _________________ Jock

Thanks for the details RQ. I'll have a look into that programme. Sounds like fun!
MaFt, I was thinking that it would be good if we could have a thread on here for people to post their links to other Euro camera databases until the PocketGPS team get a comprehensive database put together.

Mike | There are several/many threads linking to the other databases. Maybe we could pull those together into this thread and then MaFt could Sticky this?
But bear in mind that cameras databases may be illegal in some countries!

There is a large list here. (including a link back here, so it must be good ). _________________ Jock
