How are you tring to restore the backups, and how were they made in the first place (copy and paste of all the files or using TomTom Home)?
If you use Home, will it recognise the One? If so, you should be able to re-install the main software which will replace the data.chk file with the correct original version. |

Didn't want to get mtself into a bigger mess!!!

I'd suggest....
CLOSE TomTom Home, and if it tries to open up again, close it again!
Connect up your One to the PC (Close Home again? )
then do another backup using Windows Explorer, ensuring that "Hidden" files and folders are visible and file extensions are not hidden.
(in Explorer TOOLS menu / FOLDER OPTIONS / VIEW Tab /
In the "Advanced settings" section:-
TICK "Show hidden files and folders" and
UN-TICK "Hide extensions for known file types")
Now that is safe, you can have a play.
So long as you haven't updated your software since the old backup, you could first try just copying the data.chk from the backup across to the SD card, overwriting the existing one.
Ifyou have updated the software, the easiest way might be to copy and paste the entire backup back onto the card, but what exactly you do depends on whether the backup has your map folder on it (some versions of Home neglected to backup that most important bit!).
Look at the contents of your card and the backup folder to see what you have.
Once that version is up and running, you could then let Home have another go at re-installing the latest software.
As an alternative to all the above, you could just manually install the v6.52 software files from HERE
(Download and unzip - the simple instructions are in a text file). |

Fantastic!
I copied all the files and folders over like you said and now it is running again on v5.410.
Unfortunately, when I try to update via TT Home(or the manual install) there is not enough free space left. There is only 4mb of free space. Do you think it has copied over any files I can delete? |

Difficult to tell without seeing a complete file listing....
You could delete a few voices that you don't use, that might give you just enough.
What most people have done is buy a new, larger capacity SD card (they are really cheap now - about £10) and copy their entire original card onto that before updating.
It gives you loads of space for extra maps, voices, colour schemes, add-on programs etc.
Any reasonable brand (such as SanDisk, Kingston etc) should do, go for 512MB or 1GB.
It also means you'll have a SD card backup to get you going immediately if anything goes wrong with your system in the future. |
