I've backed up my original TomTom Western Europe SD Card using TomTom Home, but when I use the backup SD card it's a bit jerky when, say, in "demo route" mode and the map is updating it's position - it's just a bit juddery and not silky smooth - !!

If I put the original back in - no problem - all smooth again.... so I'm thinking that the quality of the blank SD card is very important... the card I used was a Kingston 1GB no frills affair, but I reckon that TomTom use high speed cards for the originals.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Steve

Not me, but also very interested if someone else can.

I find my new card jerkier too, but assumed it was because it has newer software on it. Others have said the screen updates are slower on latest software versions.

It's also been said that the SD cards supplied by TomTom aren't very fast at all, so its even more of a mystery.

I just found THIS very interesting speed test article....

IIRC it's the Write Speed that is the more important.

It could be that the TT Cards are optomised in this respect.

If I am correct, then generally a faster card may be better, but only if the Write Speed is better.

There's another thread on this subject.
Someone waxed lyrical about a 2GB 150x card and we all bought one for about £11 (plus exhorbitant postage from Amazon).

Then someone else did a test, calculating the same route (London to Glasgow? or one even longer and timed the seconds to do it) using the new one and a couple of old ones. If I remember rightly, the TT original won and all the other cheapos did just as well!! Sick. Crying or Very sad
