Just browsing slashdot while waiting for some scripts to complete at work and came across this story:-

Quote:
"TomTom has admitted to a UK security journalist that a number of GO 910 satellite navigation units shipped with two Trojans installed on the hard drive. But still no sign of an official warning on the TomTom website."

It is worrying that the units come with nasty infections, but as the units run under linux and there is no reason why you would execute an exe file on the unit from windows, I can't see any danger.

Now admitted by TT as infected with win32.Perlovga.A Trojan and TR/Drop.Small.qp.

Apparently its been reported that there is another malicious bit on the infected devices namely Backdoor.Win32.Small.lo which is more of a risk thatn the other two.

Probably no risk on the GO, but would be a risk to a PC when you make a backup.

Quote from Tweakers.net

This last piece of malware holds more risks for the user than the first two, and it's installed onto the system by Drop.Small.qp, just like Perlovga is. Especially annoying is the fact that this malware can be automatically run with the help of the autorun.inf file when the TomTom GO 910 is connected to the computer, making the risk larger than assumed at first.
