Just got led astray a bit. Selected "Thurlby, Lincolnshire" and the "Go to centre of area".
Route actually takes you to Heckington, about 30 miles away. Luckily I was coming from Stamford so the route to Heckington actually went through Thurlby. Could have been embarassing though.
Only explanation I can think of is that the system is taking you to the centre of Lincolnshire rather than the centre of Thurlby ?? |

Just checked this on my N20 (which has later mapping, I believe) and there was no difficulty. Thurlby just of the A15?
I presume, that you had cancelled any previous route and that your device was not trying to navigate you on a multi-stop route? I did this once and could not work out why my GPS was trying to send me South, when I knew I needed to go North When I cleared the route and then reset it there was no problem.
Otherwise, just put it down to one of those peculiar GPS events which no-one can explain. _________________ Gee-Pee

Hi
When I first had my 510 it done a similar thing.
I inputted a destination the go to centre of area. It took me to some place else? After asking similar questions, found out that it took me to the centre of the postal code area and not the area I wanted.
From then on I have always made it a rule to do the following.
• Go To
• Address or post code
• Find post code
• Input post code
• Find street
Not Go to centre of area as it will do the above. It will go to centre of post code.
I use it on a daily bases for work. It sometimes gives me grief with postal codes, but I get over this by going to Find area, which is back on the Find post code page.
In the end its only a mapping aid, you have the final say.
Are you preferences set to Route Type Half way. Motorways full right. Urban ¾ right.
Hope this helps
Regards

Could be a mapping error, otherwise the error is that the "Centre of area" is actually the geographical centre of the area, not any particular or significant point - some earlier posts discussed this.
Therefore best to stay away from this option when possible. Too many things to go wrong. Also make sure you review every route before blindly following it. The current state of this technology is that it is far from perfect. I like using it and find it very useful, but I sure as hell do not trust it. |
