I have a Tom-Tom 700
Following my recent post and your kind advice I thought I had mastered the art of speed camera downloading
I regret to say that my initial optimism re downloading the safety cameras was misplaced. I am still not able to use them. So to recap for those of you who are not bored stiff with the whole sorry saga. I was using the trial tom-tom cameras and they were working well. However a friend of mine recommended I use Pocketgpsworld, as it was far superior. I downloaded the database to “My Docs” and unzipped the file and copied and pasted it into “western Europe map” folder, at this time I had two Western Europe folders one appeared to contain the information from my tom-tom trial, which I deleted. The other appears to be the folder of the recently downloaded up to date maps. Into to which I copied and pasted.
I then disconnected from the computer and went into change preferences enable/disable poi and tapped the camera poi.
From here I then went to change preferences/warn when near a poi/chose a distance and warning sound,
Ran the route demo and got nothing.
I was wondering should I delete everything and start again. This option makes me a little nervous as knowing my luck I would completely screw up the tomtom. |

Are you sure you have actually switched over to be using your new downloaded map?
This isn't done automatically, you have to do it yourself in the "Change Preferences" menu.
If this doesn't help, come back and tell us the exact names of your map folders AND the names you see on the "Change Maps" menu page. |

When I look in "show version" it has western europe v660.1219 which I think is the up to date map. |

Yeah but what do you see on the 'change map' menu?
It still sounds like you either haven't installed the .ov2 and the .bmp files into the right map folder, and are still looking at a different map.
Or possibly you have a corrupted download or un-zip. Have you tried adding any other POI files from anywhere? Do they work? |

As a grneral note to everybody....
It saves SO much time if you can say exactly what the names are of the files you are copying, and the names of the folders in which you are putting them. |

western_europe-9d8a80 is a .mac File and is part of the TT Files.
In the standard Map Folder there should be 16 Files when first installed.
Have you loaded anything else?
There are 3 different downloads for the TT. Which Files did Download/Copy? _________________ Richard

OK, so you have ONE map folder now?
Only one map shows in "Manage Maps"?
Still trying to ascertain which map folder you have copied the files into and whether that is the map you have selected to use on the TomTom.
Another tack... When you un-zipped the archive you downloaded, you should have got these 5 files:
_Need_Help.htm
Licence.txt
pocketgps_uk_sc.bmp
pocketgps_uk_sc.ov2
release.txt
You should have copied:
pocketgps_uk_sc.bmp
pocketgps_uk_sc.ov2
into the folder for the map you are using
Can you see those filenames when you explore the TomTom's hard drive?
Finally, can you see the cameras on-screen when you go to "Browse map" and zoom in to see, for example, all of London? |

Andy's question is the relevant one. Quote: | Can you see those filenames when you explore the TomTom's hard drive? | What you've said above is a little unclear. The folder called "Western_Europe-Map" is the old folder which, according to the above, you have deleted. No harm done if that is the case - you need to copy and paste again, into the folder "Western Europe", just the two files ...
pocketgps_uk_sc.bmp
pocketgps_uk_sc.ov2
Then try the demo again. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for your help.I found the pockettgps-UK-sc.bmp had not copied so I have now done so and the speed camera symbols are now showing on the test route.i am still not getting any audible warning.
I went into change preferences enable/disable poi and ticked pocketgps UK sc
then to manage poi/warn when near poi here i only have"safety cameras" shown, no mention of pocketgps ,the sign shows the warning symbol.
I ticked warn when closer than 300 yds selected bell 3 and ticked when poi is on route . |

Now it sounds like you must still have the TomTom speed cameras installed in this map folder.
I cannot for the life of me work out how you can have pockettgps-UK-sc showing in "Enable/disable POIs" and not in "Warn when near".
Unless anyone else can come up with anything, I'm beginning to think the only way to get to the bottom of this is to:
1) delete all but one map folder, if you haven't already, and
2) delete every single POI file, (all the ov2's and .bmp's (including the TomTom supplied camera data)) and start again.
Once you have NO user POI categories, (check by going to "Delete PPOI category), then download and install the PGPSW one again.
Hopefully that will make it easier to work out what is going on. Otherwise, this one has got me beat. |
