Today I installed WM5 on my iPaq 4700, and the install went fine. Booted and rebooted and the OS was fine.
But I found my USB connection is sometimes flakey. Well I set the iPaq back it the cradle, and Win2000 didn't complain.
I knew I needed an upgrade to fix some performance issues and other bugs in the 4700 with WM5, so I DLed SP33318 and installed it. Halfway through it got a comm error on USB and aborted the install. Now I have a bootloader screen for v1.10 on the iPaq, and ActiveStync is not communicating.
When I re-run the upgrade it queries the iPaq and says it can not continue because it is for ROM version 2.01.05, but my iPaq is at version 4.xx. Well there is no 4.xx. Only option is [Cancel].
OK, I reinstalled WM5 from the CD, and thank God it worked. And I got the WM5 update to 2.01 installed successfully.
But now I can't sync. When I plug in the iPaq Win2000 says New Hardware Found, and wants to install the driver for "HP RNDIS Sync", which I've never heard of before. When I install it (it finds the driver in SP4 files), ActiveStync 4.2 still doesn't recognize anything.
Try re-installing Activesync...I had the same problem and went to 4.5 beta to get around it. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk)
Oooo, I had thought about backrevving. On another machine I'm getting a "no /SERVICES directory" error when I try to explore using ActiveStync, and I find this is because I have IE5.5 and not 6.
Well, Winduhs is not trusted to touch the internet, so there will be no upgrading to IE6, and I don't trust IE6 in the first place.
Thanks, I'll try backrevving. How can AS be so busted?!
And actually, all my servers run Linux, and Winduhs runs in a virtual machine as guest. This all worked with WM2003 and AS4.1, but now with WM5 and AS4.2, no.
I am now compiling the (beta Linux drivers to hopefully connect WM5 directly to Linux. Then I'll never have to boot Winduhs in a VMware virtual machine.
