Hi. Not sure if this is the best forum on this site to ask this but it's seems quite active here and thought i'm more likely to get answers.

I have just bought a Sony GPS-CS1 logger. Mainly for photography so I know where I took my photos. It can store 2 weeks worth of logs so I thought it would be handy to have on in the car on long journeys to see where I went.

I need to be able to view the logged NMEA file somehow. I downloaded "GPS Utility" which allows me to convert the NMEA into almost any other format. (limited size with unregistered version).

I have converted short journeys into .kml files for google earth but all the track points seem to be displaced to the left acording to the map.

Is there a better way to view a NMEA file on a map? I have Autoroute but cannot find anything that will convert to anything autoroute can read.

Thanks

Paul

What other formats will GPSUtilty save into? What format are your files in? Email me a small sample if you want.

A consistent displacement would point to a problem with the datums being used by the map and the logger. Check what map datum is being used and what datum is in use by your logger. I would expect (by default) that it would be set to WGS84.

You need to ensure that both the map datum and the GPS/logger datum are identical - otherwise you get the sorts of displacement you are seeing.

Have a look at www.oziexplorer.com for a nice bit of s/w for scanning and calibrating maps / images etc to most datums. There is a forum area for Oziexplorer on this site.

Why not try GPSBable this will convert to and from most of the GPS related data formats that exist, and it doesn't have a limit with the file size, there is a version that runs in a dos style window or the GPSBabelGUI-2 which is more like a traditional windows based application - Mike
