Faulty hardware?

Hi,

Not posted here for a while.

I have TomTom Mobile 5.20 with the TomTom MKII receiver.

Recently, I have been exhibiting problems where the software has been giving me incorrect directions on the move.

The worst was on Friday on the North Circular in London, a duel carrigeway with a minimum 40 MPH speed limit, and I was told to turn right 8O

As you might expect, I ignored the instruction...

A few weeks back, I was told to turn down a no entry street.

Is TomTom trying to kill me?

What I would like to know is, does the GPS hardware go wrong that it starts giving incorrect information to the software, or is it a device where it either works or doesn't?

I must admit that I have dropped the hardware a couple of times

I'm using a legal TomTom 5.20 on a Vodafone VPA (also known as an O2 XDA Compact), with the latest UK map running off a 4 GB card.

Any ideas?

The problems you describe could not be explained by a hardware fault - there must be a mapping error on the maps supplied by TeleAtlas. If you report them to TeleAtlas they may be corrected in a future map issue.

Was it showing you as being on the correct road at the time?

I have had a similar episode with TT5.21 and TT MkII GPS. I was on M62 and TT showed me as being on a road running along side. - It was giving me very strange directions! It turned out that the GPS had suddenly only got a lock on two satellites that were in the same part of the sky. The accuracy of this 2D fix wasn't sufficient to locate me on the correct road. I turned the GPS off then on and it fixed the 'problem' Back to 10 sats and back on the M62.
