Yes, you can do that. Don't expect any wonders though. _________________ Lutz

I've tried one of these on the 910 and although it was usable there was a slight wining noise which I think would annoy me after a while. Also some of the ebay ones only do 1 or 4 possible frequencies in the FM band and it's surprising how many radio stations there are these days to interfere with those!
I'm curious if the new type of FM transmitters with digitally selectable frequencies across the FM band are any better.
Anyhow let us know how it works out. |

same issues. You still hear the crosstalk.
What I find problematic is that I have to decide if I want to listen to radio OR to the instructions. For reasons unknown to me I cannot do both. I thought the FM transmitter should only transmit when it has to say something, and then it should be powerful enough to completely crash out the radio signal on the selected frequency. _________________ Lutz

All the cheap ones for iPods etc DO transmit constantly.
And if you have two transmitters on the same frequency, you can get all sorts of nasty cross-modulation etc. = horrible hooting and squalling noises. |

To remain legal the transmitter needs to be CE marked, if not the power output could be too high. If using one of these you find whining noise on the audio consider fitting a ground loop issolation device, Maplins stock one. - Mike |

I've just been trying an "Iscream' transmitter from HMV (£12.99).
It works pretty well, much better than my old ebay ones which only had a few fixed frequencies.
If you power the 910 and the transmitter from the car 12v there is a definite 'fizzing' noise which is probably the earth loop syndrome but to be honest I'm far too lazy to sort out an isolating transformer. With either unit on internal battery power however this disappears. There is still a barely audible white noise on the signal but I don't think that is loud enough to annoy.
I think the option to transmit on the entire FM band is a real bonus as interference from broadcast stations was the main problem with my old models.

All,
I have had the same issues after purchasing a Belkin FM Transmitter to connect to my TT 910, i cant work out if its the car or the TT causing the "fuzz" to it is not a constant noise and not allways when I accelerate so it could just be down to the low powered CE approved transmitter that we in the UK are now forced to use instead of the higher power US transmitters. Anyhows I belive there could be a breakthough for this problem which TOM TOM themselves are about to release, please see the below link on TOMTOM's website. They are bringing out a combined FM Transmitter mount (retailing at 49.99 Euros). Their does not seem to be any details on this but I hope it would include some kind of Ground Loop feedback device reducing the "Fuzz".

Does anyone have any more detail on this mount? |

Mike, does the audio accompanying the video play back through the external sound socket? (turn the volume down and plug some ear phones in to the socket to try it) - I seem to remember trying this a while ago and the sound refused to play through anything but the TomTom's own internal speaker - Mike |
