I have just received my Fortuna Clip-on. WOW.
Not yet had a chance to test XTrac lag in a car environment, but XT sure pulls in a good signal sat in my office. Sitting here with 5 sats, where my Holux 270CF struggles to see any.
It's a nice small unit too. Looks much better than in the pics.
I will try it out in ST and XT modes with TTNav in the car on the way home.

I have just got my clip-on back from Fortuna after repair (wouldn't change out of XT mode).
After driving around in ST mode for a couple of days, I can say that this is an excellent unit. Good TTFF's, excellent signal sesitivity, accurate too. With the added advantage of being able to use it in XT mode when not in the car and in less than ideal conditions, I'd say this was a real winner!!

Having moved to clip-on from TT BTGPS I would say in normal mode it
lags slightly from TT.
However ability to remove battery to reset unit is huge boost.

In ST mode, my Clip-on doesn't exhibit any lag at all. Spot on, every bit as good as my Holux CF GPS.

I've had my "Clip-on" for almost a week now and am very pleased.
I mostly use it with Fugawi UK on my Look Pocketpc - although I also use it with Autoroute 2002 and Pocketstreets which some people report as being incompatible with Bluetooth GPS.
I've not had any problems with lag in XT mode at speeds of up to 70mph so I'm leaving it in XT mode all the time at the moment.
The only "odd" thing was there was a major lag the first time I used it. The software recorded the route I had taken exactly but it lagged behind my actual position by several minutes. Could this delay be caused by the GPS downloading GPS sat data on initial use ? |
