Hi Everyone, a belated Merry Christmas and a forth coming Happy New Year!

Sorry but not sure what section to put this in as it's to do with TomTom Mobile 5, Nokia 9500 & XDA Exec.

So Just a couple of quick questions that I'm sure most have come up against.

I'm finally getting rid of my Nokia 9500, It's been great but I find it slow compared to my new XDA Exec, especially running TT5 sometimes.

So my question is :-

Can I transfer my TT5 software from the Nokia 9500 to the XDA Exec or will I have to buy it all over again?

The other Question is :-

I've bought the latest Map, POI's and Voice's all from TomTom so will these work with the new device?

These are attched to the Product code aren't they?

Oh and as I'm not that familar with the XDA yet, will I need to install via a DVD unlike the Nokia where I copied folders across etc.

Anyway, I've emailed TomTom through my Support page but they're not back till the New Year, so thought I get a few answers here first.

If its a straight forward you'll have to buy it again then thats fine, I'll sell the Registered TomTom with the Nokia.

Thanks all, be safe and have a good one!

The Nokia is a Smart Phone device (it uses TomTom Mobile), your Exec is a PDA based phone (it needs TomTom Navigator).

The software is available free from the TomTom web site you want version 5,21 (that was the last release for TomTom Navigator version 5.

The Map should be fine, you are limitted to the amount of activations, you can make a second activation one month after the first, and thereafter every six months.

POI and Voices will all transfer accross without a problem.

To install the maps I would recommend the use of a card reader, the actual application can be installed a number of ways, my preference is to use CAB files stored on the SD card, once created these files can be used again to re-install if tou wipe the device - Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've had a look on the TT Site in the downloads section and all I can find is an update for Nav 5 and not the free version?

Quote:
Update December 2005 - TomTom NAVIGATOR 5.2xx - Pocket PC/Palm OS
Answer
Is this update meant for me?
This update can ONLY be used when you have already installed a registered version of TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 on your Pocket PC/Palm OS device.

So it looks like I may need to buy the full version first then update?
Although if I do have to then I'll go for TTN6.
I find it strange that TT would make TTN5 available as a free download unless I've misinterperted (sp) what you have said.

Thanks again

it says it is an update but in fact it is a full application in its own right, it is the map that requires the activation not the application - check your e-mail - Mike

Hi Mike and thanks again for the quick reply and email 8)

I've gone through the install, no problems there.

Only problem I have is activating my map.
UK & IE Plus Map V660

Have changed my device and the code on the TomTom main site, so thats now tied to my new XDA Exec instead of the Nokia 9500.

Automatic Activation failed, so went to ttcode.com, but it still has my old device code for the Nokia saying click here which I don't want to do.

So how does it see my new device code on the ttcode site and can I change it manually?

Can't believe I'm nearly there as well....doh!

Thanks again Mike

Hi Mike,

Just installed the old maps onto the 2Gb MMC and re-acivated the very original map that I got with the Nokia 9500 kit and hey presto up and running, although I still can't get the newer maps activate yet, but very happy its up and running.

So a big thank you 8) Wink
