Hi all,

This happens to be my 1st post - perhaps I am a little shy?

Fiistly, a B I G T H A N K Y O U to the Pocket GPS team for presenting me with a life membership for reporting Gatso Camera 26130. Also to advise, any member hoping to be first to report a camera - you have to be b...y quick. I caught this camera being lowered into a hole in the ground, waiting for the concrete to be poured!

A couple of things then...

Camera 26130 is located on the Southbound Carriageway of the A38, Streethay, nr Lichfield, Staffordshire. Please be aware, this camera has been temporary set to 40mph, not 50mph as depicted on the UK map showing all UK cameras within the SPEED CAMERA section of Pocket GPS World.

Also, I was credited with my lifelong membership in early DEC 2006, but the camera still appears NOT to be active within the current camera database, even after downloading the database from version offered on 23 DEC.

Sooooo....

All you guys travelling from Burton towards the A5 and beyond, be careful of this camera, it does exist.

Again thanks to the Pocket GPS team and H A P P Y N E W Y E A R to all members.

26130 was activated on 12th december so will be in any database released from that date. in the release dated 13th dec it was in as a 40, then the most recent release it's in as a 50.

as for the 50mph we'd had more reports of 50mph than 40 so i added it as 50...

Hi MaFt,

Many thanks for the reply.

The camera is not really a TEMP camera as such. The speed limit on the current stretch of road is set at 40mph, but I would suggest the GATSO camera is definitely FIXED.

Currently, there is either strengthening or widening of the bridge over the Trent Valley Line by Network Rail, as they widen their rail highway to 4 lanes. These temporary roadwork’s should be completed by Autumn 2007, supposedly.

At this stage, it is unlikely the cameras in the Streethay area (2 in total, 1 Northbound, 1 Southbound) will be removed, more likely the current speed set will revert to the de-restricted speed of 70mph, in line with the present speed of the A38 either side of these roadwork’s.

Regarding your comment as to the inclusion of the camera within the database, I will have to check my database again to see if camera 26130 resides in the TEMP section of cameras, rather than being shown as a fixed GATSO camera. My impression was, rightly or wrongly, TEMP cameras were not concreted structures, but could be placed into position and moved as and when required. Camera 26130 is definitely well and truly concreted into its current position, a mirror image of it’s partner in crime Camera 24364 residing across the road on the North bound carriageway.

As I pass the cameras too and from work every working day, I will keep you updated as to when these speed limits have changed.

Many thanks for your speedy response.

temp camera's are basically ones that appear with roadworks. i'm pretty certain that particular criteria must be met in order to get a permanent camera installed so it is likely that these camera's will be either removed or 'bagged over' once roadworks cease.

chers
