Would the coverage of RoI be an indication? V9 for the Garmin has street level mapping for the whole of Eire. V8 only had major roads outside of the towns. _________________ Anita

The ONE V3 European model uses NAVTEQ maps, but since TomTom and Garmin use different numbering systems, it is difficult to equate Garmin's V9 to a TomTom map version. Perhaps asking Garmin and TomTom what NAVTEQ release (Year and month) they have used to make their respective maps would provide a better indication. _________________ Tim |

Now THAT would be interesting!
But how on Earth are we going to get that information out of them, when they refused to even divulge their own version numbers until very recently?
Answers on a postcard, please... |

Got TomTom One V2 Europe today for £199 in the sale in Halfords after MUCH debate. Was deciding between it and the Garmin Nuvi 360. I'm in NI so want the latest Navteq maps. I know the V9 Garmin units are using Q2 2006 Navteq. On Garmins site they list some specific improvements from V8 such as:
Coverage of the new bypass around Bundoran
Coverage of the extended bypass around Cavan
Coverage of the new A157 around the north of Lisburn (a road i know and use)
After browsing this evening, TT has ALL of these roads on it. Looking at garmins online browseer of the V9 maps, I'm struggling to find ANY difference. I can only assume that its Q2 2006 Navteq as well. Does anyone know of a link where i can see specific differences between the Navteq quaterly releases?
So far i'm pretty happy. The latest maps of Ireland using the best front end imo. billy bargain at this price to. |

If Garmin can provide this sort of detailed information, why on Earth can't TomTom?
I've copied that quote to TT as a support question. I doubt I'll get much of an answer, but it made me feel better! |

Cheers, thats EXACTLY what i was wanting . This states that the things bypass information i've listed above are new in the Q2 2006 releases. Therefore TomTom ONE V2 Europe seems to be using these
Totally agree Andy. Getting this information is like getting blood from a stone . I spent ages trying to find this. I wanted TomTom and I'm in ireland and this seems to be the only viable way to do it, yet TomTom don't make the navtewq versions available |
