In the XDA forums there is discussions regarding "Cooked ROM's". The term Cooked ROM means that the shipped ROM/Application has been modified with other files.

There is a fine line between software piracy and modified ROM's, however there are a number of benefits to be had and I beleive a site like this should allow this type of discussion.

As can be seen from my configuration I've used all the best bits from TomTom software range and I beleive I have the best configuration available, and why

Running V6.11 allows text to speech.
Map V650.1052 additional map data including better text to speech.
GPS v1.21 latest GPS drivers
GPRS traffic, the TMC option does not work.

Confused The bottom line is that as a normal user it is possible to combine all the best TomTom componets to make a near perfect device. So why is it TomTom cannot, or chooses not to provide configurations similar to this?

In one word - money. TomTom pay licencing fees to Loquendo for the TTS engine, and this licence is limited to the GO 910 devices.

You are free to combine different components from TomTom to create your optimal system but a) it better be legal and b) there is no money in it for TomTom. They want you to buy again, and again. etc.
