I was thinking to myself today how my TomTom GO300 has been greatly improved from the original straight out of the box product with things like spoken speed camera alerts informing one of the speed limit for each camera, personalised voices and automatic day/night time screen brightness etc. What's even more remarkable is that these improvements owe nothing to TomTom but are all down to the excellent work by people such as Lutz and many more enthusiast like him - I for one would like to say a big thank you to all these ever helpful enthusiasts. It does beg the question though as to why TomTom themselves can't come up with these ideas and implement them for the benefit of their loyal customers? |

In fairness they have made an attempt at most of them...

They told us (eventually) about the .ogg file method, and they must have produced the original code to make it work.
(Shame they SERIOUSLY messed up by changing their own camera system so it can't use them, though! They must be frantically working on a fix for that).

they do those (in Plus Services)

There's a light sensor on the new models that does that.
Then there's Traffic, Weather, Hands-free, Text to speech, spoken messaging etc as well as {ahem} TMC.
They might make a mess of a lot of things, but they do try to innovate. |

Without taking away from the excellent work done by Lutz and other third party developers, I strongly disagree with that statement.
These improvements owe a lot to TomTom. If they didn't publish their APIs and Software Development Kit then most of these improvements wouldn't exist at all or would be very difficult to implement..... _________________ Gone fishing! |
