What exactly is a "SatNav"?

What distinguishes a SatNav from other GPS units? I always though SatNav = GPS, but from the forum layout, it seems to be seperated out.

"Nav" means navigation. So "SatNav" is more geared towards road navigation hardware and software as opposed to offroad orienteering. Apart from that you can use the terms pretty interchangibly. PND, SatNav, GPS etc. Pretty much the same as handy, mobile, cell, сотовый etc. Just different names for the same thing.
