If you put your approximate location in your Profile, there might be some kind soul nearby who might be able to help you.;)
One thing you will need is a larger SD Card, as the GB Map now includes the Republic of Ireland.

You may have deleted the files on your card, as the red cross indicates that the unit thinks the card is missing. Did you make a back-up when you set up TomTom Home?
If you did then you could restore the back-up.
If you didn't try taking the card out (with the unit turned off), waiting 30 secs before replacing it.

I'm afraid that if you have deleted the map and don't have a backup you have serious problems. How old is the unit and where are you? It may be best to take it back to the retailer, plead ignorance and see if they'll swap it.

It does work out of the box though! Map data currency affects every device but old maps does not make a device unusable!
I've given a TomTom GO to my ageing parents and in-laws and they are confirmed technophobes but wouldn't go anywhere without one now. And unlike other systems they have managed to understand the menus and not break these!
