Advice for a PCMCIA compatible GPS

I have a tablet PC running Windows XP that I would like to add a GPS to. It does not have any CompactFlash slots. It does have a PCMCIA slot and from what I understand there are some that use this type or there are adapters.
Can anyone recommend a good GPS to use for this PC which is well supported by the various popular software applications?

Welcome to the forum, I have used a Holux GR-271 CF device housed in a PCMCIA addaptor in my laptop on a number of occasions and it works very well, the device is SiRF-III equipped so it works fine under demanding conditions and takes very little power from the host device, certainly worth consideration - Mike

Thanks for the quick reply. I forgot to mention the tablet also has a secure digital slot if there are any that use this.

Yes you can get SDIO GPS units Globalsat make one, you can read the details HERE I would make sure the actual device drivers are available for your host unit though first - Mike

The GlobalSat SD-502 does not support XP so I guess that's out.
I couldn't find any information about XP support for the GlobalSat BC-337.
I'm down to that and the Holux GR-271.
Also I heard that these have to be pointing up. The PCMCIA slot is on the side of the tablet PC. Would this affect it if it were sideways?

Never tried a 337, but the 271 works fine with XP, as for device orientation it will work fine. So long as the GPS can get a signal it will work, it really doesn't matter which way up the device is pointing - Mike
