Had a very similar problem with a 310D from Halfords. No traffic data with the power cable provided, although it worked perfectly when powered indoors (and in the car) with a mains supply USB transformer. However I did not have a long enough mains extension lead to allow me to use it anywhere in the UK! I then tried it with a cigarette lighter USB socket, and a standard USB cable - worked perfectly with traffic data picked up within 20 seconds of locking onto satellites.

Contacted garmin by email, and after a brief email exchange and a couple of week delay they sent me out a 6025 charger which seems to work fine. Still seems to be very sensitive to placement of the arial. I've got a Galaxy, and initially just put the arial wire hidden away right at the front of the dashboard where it meets the windscreen. Signal was then a bit hit or miss - not sure if it was too near the car body (bulkhead), or perhaps the heated windscreen upset it. However moved the arial back to a convenient groove just above the instument panel in the middle of the dashboard and it now seems to pick up the signal pretty reliably. Getting levels 6-8, whereas it was lucky to get 4 close to the windscreen. Not sure how high the levels go, but 6-8 seems to work fine for me.

Now all I am waiting for is a modification that ensures the traffic reported is up to date, as my experience so far seems to indicate it is very much like the traffic bulletins on the radio - usually a good 30 min to 1 hour behind the real situation :-) So I've sailed through supposed jams, and run into jams that do not exist!
