Wonder if anyone has had a similar problem as follows.
TTOne, I've had for a few months. No problems.
I was running v5.45.
6.15 was released so downloaded, through Home.
I have noticed that when the unit is switched on, the wallpaper appears, then there is a tap sound as if gently tapping a finger nail on a desk followed by a high pitched tone.... |

RESTORED my unit to an earlier sw 5.45, and the tone has gone as it should be.
re-loaded 6.15, and the tone re-appears
STRANGELY which made me think it was the SD card at fault, when the unit is connected to the pc, there is no tone.
Disconnect, switch on, and the tone re-appears.
I HAVE spoken with TomTom, but thought maybe someone else has this problem?? |

Do you mean the audio circuitry initialization sound? I hear that too but I can't say I am too concerned - the device functions normally after that. _________________ Lutz

That's the one! Well, Not exactly??
It's NOT just on initialisation. "Wallpaper" appears on screen, there is a click, and then the tone which remains constant.
It was NOT there before, so one can only assume it's a fault of some nature.
And it doesn't happen with 5.45software.
Something strange (and annoying) |

Lutz,
Just to clarify. You say about the initialisation circuitry. Are you inferring that you have a CONSTANT tone after this, or are you saying that you get the tone, and then it silences??
Bear in mind.... (beaver in bush! :-) ).... 5.45 s/w does NOT have this problem, it's only since having loaded 6.15.

Mr "Raincloud" :-)
"It happens on ALL 6.xx??"
I am not talking about a tone INITALLY. I am talking "switch unit on, opening screen, click, tone ALWAYS there". It does not silence after x seconds.
I have spoken with TT, first line, and they didn't have an answer, but thought it odd. They spoke with their second line, who also felt it odd, suggesting I send the unit back to them. That would be the easy answer (although it'll take 10 days). It's more on principal now, and "could the tone get worse??"

I don't get a tone with the Classic.;)
Perhaps a different Audio Circuit and something in the Software.
How easy is it to hear? How close do you have to be for it to be noticeable? _________________ Richard

How easy is it to hear?
Without appearing "rude".. I hear it!! That's loud enough!
Sorry Richard. Seriously though. At arms length, it can JUST about be heard, very feint. Put it closer, and it's more audible, high pitched tone.
Okay. Driving the car, radio on, can't be heard
BUT....
It WAN'T there before, else I would have noticed. It IS there now, with 6.15 loaded, but NOT if one goes back to 5.45.
I COULD ignore it, BUT it MAY get worse? It MAY cause other problems? It MAY be able to be rectified by TomTom?
More principle than anything, as it WASN'T THERE BEFORE (nor when I restore to 5.45.
Cheers

There is a click, and then there is a tone, but nothing like you`re describing. |

"Mr Raincloud"
Are you therefore saying that the tone IS constant, whilst the unit is switched on?? And is audible throughout (especially if held to the ear (this is almost paranoia!)
However, if one has the unit attached to the pc (and operate through TT Home), there is NO tone (which INITIALLY made me think it could be SD card related).
Bottom line. (Detached from pc) Switch unit on, = Splash Screen (no tone), then a click, then the tone (constant throughout operation). Is THIS what you are saying??
(and why not with 5.45, and why not when connected to pc?)
Put this into another angle (a different analogy). No problems with your HiFi. One day you switch the HiFi on, and there is a buzz/tone. Would this be acceptable, or would you think there was a problem??
Cheers

I upgraded my TomTom One this morning.
And I too now get a buzzing / high pitched whining noise when it is switched on, whether it be connected to the PC or not.
It is incredibly annoying and is actually quite loud (and doesn't change with the volume level on the unit).
i have yet to try downgrading it, will do that later and see if it makes a difference. |

Actually, aswell as the high pitched whining there is an underlying chugging noise! It may be the SD card but why would it start doig this? Very odd. |

I am not too aware of the settings available on this device, but when loaded with version 6,15 go to Change Preferences/ Brightness preferences (you might need to select Show ALL menu options) - now turn the screen brightness down and see if the noise changes in pitch/ intensity.
The above settings are available on my 910, but I am not 100% they are available to you on the TomTom one, if it is give it a try and report back and findings - Mike |
