How do I prevent TomTom6 from starting whenever I insert my SD card? I have tried to remove the autorun executable from the 2577 directory but all that happens then is that TT6 cannot find any maps. The start.exe makes no difference either. |

Renaming the 2577 folder or autorun.exe results in TomTom finding no maps. |

A genuine TTN6 version doesn't behave like that. _________________ Lutz

Well you are wrong there, mine does, V6.010 TomTom Navigator6, Software and Maps of Western Europe DVD.
Changing anything to do with the file or path "storage card\2577\autorun.exe" will bring up the disclaimer screen followed by no maps found. Changing the file "autorun.exe-run" will cause TomTom to try and reinstall. |

Have to agree there, I have a genuine DVD version of TTN6 and when I put my SD card into my PDA it starts Tomtom automatically it does it also if I press the soft reset button too.
Don't think you should be so quick to assume that people have illegal versions |

Damian - I think Lutz was saying that if you change the folder name to anything but its default then it won't autostart when you insert the card BUT a Genuine version of TT6 will still find the maps when you manually run it.
Personally I like the autostart feature - if I'm putting the maps in then I probably want to use TT6. |

So why does my genuine version do this, it cannot be different to any other genuine version? |

let me rephrase.
"A well behaved TTN 6 installation is NOT dependent on the 2577 folder"
I never had that folder on my SD card, and TTN6 works fine without it. _________________ Lutz

What would your suggestion be then with regard to either removing the 2577 folder or making TT6 behave well? My (legal) TT6 autoruns setup when I put the SD card in as well. I have the disappearing card problem on my Axim and TT6 setup autoruns when my x51v 'discovers' the SD card as well. My 2577 folder is essential for Tomtom to find the maps, as are the exact file names in the folder. (i.e. Renaming autorun.exe means that my genuine TT6 can't find the maps)
The only time I didn't need the 2577 folder was when I tried an 'evaluation' version and it worked without the 2577 folder. Are you sure yours is legal? :-p |

Sorry to reply to my own post, but I have found a way of stopping Autorun without TT6 loosing the maps. I renamed AutoRun.exe in my 2577 folder to AutoRun.exe.bak and then created a text document on my PC and transfered it to the 2577 folder.
I renamed it to AutoRun.exe and now when I insert my SD card, instead of autorun starting, I get the error message 'The file 'autorun' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.' Tomtom can still find the GB plus major roads of WE without trouble.
For me, this is better than letting autorun start as it has erased my favourites etc on more than one occasion. Possibly there is a more elegant solution but I am not knowledgeable enough to find it. |

Sorry for talking to myself again, but I have got the official solution!!
I had a reply from Tomtom support:
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
In regards to your query, please do not rename the files but create another folder (the name doe's not matter) and put the 2577 and the Start file into this folder. As you renamed it you may need to reinstall the software. If you please do it as normal and then put the 2577 and the Start file into a new folder. If this fails please advise or call us on 08451610009.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team
The english is somewhat broken but after a little experimentation, I think I have found what they mean. The start file they refer to is autorun.exe-run situated on my Axim in the 2577 folder. Move this to another folder and problem solved! Maps found, no more autorun, well at least for me it works. The two cab files and the autorun.exe must be left in their original position in the 2577 folder for Tomtom to find the map. |
